There’s the old saying in life that you can always count on two things….”Death and Taxes”. Perhaps it’s time to amend that old saying to “Death, Taxes and Smoking Restrictions” or “Death, Taxes and More Government Interference in OUR lives!”.

Fourteen states have pending legislation to hike the tobacco taxes in their states. Some are marginal, some are as high as 300%! There are also six states considering new or additional smoking restrictions in their states. Fortunately not all of these are expected to pass.

On the bright side:

• The Virginia House of Delegates defeated several bills that would have prohibited smoking in restaurants and other public places. These bills are now dead for the session.
• Wyoming House of Representatives defeated a statewide ban on smoking by preventing the bill from being introduced.

Virginia and Wyoming is proof positive that not all politicians are nuts!
