How Do I Restore a Dry Cigar?

Patience is the name of the game when it comes to restoring a cigar that has dried out due to a lack of humidity.  Time and a slow re-hydrating process are the two essential elements required to restore the cigars to their original state.

Start by placing the cigars in a sealed box or non-humidified humidor for a few days to allow them to breathe and adjust to their environment.  After a few days, add a partially filled humidifier or a damp clean sponge to the box, being careful not to allow the sponge to touch the cigars.  This will slowly add some humidity to the cigars but at a much lower rate than the ideal 70RH optimal reading.  Let them sit for about a week.  Repeat this process for another week and your cigars should be looking and feeling a lot better.

After two weeks, you can re-introduce your cigars to a charged or humidified humidor.  Let them rest in your properly maintained humidor for 1-2 months.

While this process may seem time consuming, it is really necessary.  Adding too much humidity too quickly to a dry cigar will cause the cigar to expand to quickly and will cause the cigars wrapper to burst!
